I first dropped in Zom Hee almost thirty-five years ago picking up ten lunches to go for the gang I worked with. When working in that area I made it a point to get the take out at least once a week. The restaurant is located on Park Blvd. near Starkey and is recessed from the street so you could go right by it.

It is a traditional style a la carte full service environment and the older gentlemen, aka the chef hasn't changed in years. Thats good because he is a great chef and so are his staff.  The food is hot, seasoned, delicious and reminds me of the old days.  BB= Before Buffets.

The newer buffets may offer selection but unless they are turning food, I think of it as leftovers, and maybe I’m not a fan of taking food others have had their hands all over picking and choosing each piece and some of those places really let them get away with it.

Those which offer crab legs with the meal usually you can count on one selfish person grabbing more than his share, couples grabbing the whole tray, or you wait till they bring out more since the last guy took it all.  Same thing happens with the crawfish.  Its common at these buffets especially if they have a far east crowd who main diet was shellfish and I  told one owner since the one family took turns taking all the seafood why should I have to pay for seafood I never got.  Most of the buffets buy the shell and crabs, as seconds and offer it as a come on. It’s really poor or old quality.  But it brings them in…

SUGGESTION: GO to ZOM HEE  get good, get fresh, get treated like family, there with a group of six people and each one order a different entree. the portions are big and everyone will get a chance to try something different. We did it and it was a blast.  Tell Kenny the Owner, Al sent you.

I hadn't been there in years many years as we had moved more north. When I walked back in the Kenny,  the son and owner greeted me and remembered my name as If I had been in there yesterday.

Most important is the food is real, great portions and value for the dollar.  Kenny’s website explains it all...and I couldn’t say it better.

And the best recommendation of all is from my best friend who is from a generation of picky food eaters and she loves the place.  Thats her plate. Like she says two days later it’s still great, she can never finish the whole thing. She calls it two meals for one.

It will remind you of the great Chinese restaurants of the past in it’s unchanged Chinese decor but the emphasis is on food here and thats right up to date.  The proof is he has a great following and a lot of take out.  Full liquor bar and generous great cocktails…
