Just a touch of Chicago located right here in mid Pinellas County.  On many occasions I have eaten in Bruce’s Dog house within two years,  I’m still kicking, and was really surprised during this inspection in April 2019, things may have gone to the dogs.  The new Food Police, new Agriculture commissioner has got the boys really checking and finding violations.   Easily correctable problems....Knowing Bruce he’ll get it straight,  his Dog Emporium...It’s located in a small strip mall at Ulmerton and Belcher and easily accessible.

It’s  a popular place based on the small joints that was Bills Doghouse here and at another strip mall on Tyrone and Ninth.  His career as a decorator though adding so much wall decorations, has advantage, he’ll never have to paint and the Optometrists in Pinellas County claims its good for their business.  All those eye charts on the wall.

First let me state unequivitively there is a Bruce, he  is a character and likable.  The store features some brand name products familiar to Chicago area refugees living here or just ducking the cold weather during the winter.

Bruce himself will tell you, we have been serving quality food for 24 years in this location. We serve authentic Chicago food, including 23 different types of Chicago Dogs.  We serve Red Hot Chicago hot Dogs which is owned by Vienna Beef Sausage company in Chicago. Established in 1994.

We are a Chicago restaurant serving very high quality Chicago food since 1994. We started with just 3 tables when we took over the old Bills Doghouse and today have expended into a 100 seat space”.

He carries the Brand Names like Vienna Beef Sausage Company and other names from the Chicago area. And he carries more than just Hot Dogs.   He has the extensive list for Pinellas County.  Bear in mind, these Chicago products are  more expensive than BallPark Franks ( Most of the time an unknown quality, various combinations and sizes, more for the plebeian masses and not for the true Hot Dog afficianado)

THE CHICAGO HOTDOG  VS THE NEW YORK KOSHER DOG

Personally, I am a hot dog fanatic.  I am also sensitive to certain additional items some manufacturers place in their hotdogs.  Lets be spot on if they ( the manufacturers and food processors) did what they say they do for the consumers protection we would not have recalls and Zantac.

The “Chicago Style” hot dog got its start from street cart hot dog vendors during the hard times of the Great Depression. Money was scarce, but business was booming for these entrepreneurs who offered a delicious hot meal on a bun for only a nickel. The famous Chicago Style Hot Dog was born!

A REAL KOSHER HOTDOG STORY

*  Bruce also has Nathan’s ( Not Kosher)  and Hebrew National ( Kosher)

The NEW YORK KOSHER HOTDOG, ( which is not SABRETT)  is usually served with spicy German Mustard and Sauerkraut, they don’t fill a bun with salad and peppers.   Sabrett is KOSHER STYLE NOT KOSHER.  There is a huge difference in the meaning and legality, thats why they throw the word KOSHER STYLE in.  It’s called a ploy, some people see only the word “Kosher”.   Also Nathan’s Hotdogs are not Kosher. 

However, in the culinary world, the reigning champ of Nathan’s Famous 4-th of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest, Joey “Jaws” Chestnut, is set to compete against a number of other contestants. Last year, Chestnut downed 62 Nathan franks in 10 minutes.  


The original Nathan's restaurant stands at the corner of Surf and Stillwell Avenues in the 
Coney Island neighborhood of the Brooklyn borough of New York CityNew York. The company's headquarters are at One Jericho Plaza in Jericho, New York, part of Oyster Bay, New York.

Nathan franks are not from the same vendor that supplied them years ago when I practically lived at CONEY ISLAND in New York, the origional store.  I simply cannot imagine a change and their supplier then was Marathon.

But Nathan's Famous (NASDAQ: NATH), the iconic New York wiener company, said it has inked a new licensing agreement with Lisle, Ill.-based John Morrell Food Group to manufacture, market and sell Nathan's-branded hot dogs.Yet, when it comes to July 4-th, there is nothing more mouth-watering than a couple of old standards:   


I agree, Vienna Beef and KOSHER Hebrew National hot dogs are premium and cost more.  Vienna Beef and Hebrew National franks, when cooked on a grill, emit an ambiance of flavors unlike any other.  Top drawer.

These in my opinion are the top names in Hotdogs and yes they are more expensive than the run of the mill cow that fell into a huge blender,  sawdust and all,  blister packed and called some sports name.   Bruce carries all three.


WHAT IS TRIANGLE K SUPERVISION?
ED:   It refers to a symbol, a triangle with a K in it, meaning this product is heavily inspected and KOSHER. Kosher Hotdogs ( Hebrew National) when tested against other processed meats like Steak and Shake Burgers and McDonalds indicated that certain parts of the cow ( above the shoulder, bellow the belly and not aft of the rib cage)   are not “kashruth” or certified Kosher.  There are a few ‘blackmarket” kosher type operations who will use parts of the butt, but they are not recognized though they claim so.

It also refers to how the animal is treated before In order for meat to be considered kosher, the animal the meat came from must be healthy and clean, meaning it can’t have dirty hides covered in mud, sand or stones, the suit notes. And that it is slaughtered mercifully. 

When you buy  Hebrew National it’s a premium cut of meat of the highest attainable level and not like Steak and Shake who call their cheap steakburgers
( truly the ass end of the cow)  a Steakburger and have been doing it for years.


KOSHER HAS VERY STRICT RULES
The Triangle K symbol is a trademarked logo that signifies “kashruth” (kosher) as defined by the most stringent Jews who follow Orthodox Jewish Law.   It’s a symbol of integrity, representing the most trusted and reliable name in strict rabbinical food certification and supervision. 

For more than half a century, Triangle K has been committed to making kosher food products available to people around the world.  While there might be slight variations from plant to plant, the requirements for the manufacture of all kosher food are based on the same fundamental principle of Jewish Dietary Laws: 


ONLY KOSHER INGREDIENTS PROCESSED IN KOSHER EQUIPMENT

First, a special supervisor, the “ mashgiach", or an ordained Orthodox rabbi conducts an investigation of the plant and its procedures, as well as the ingredients, equipment, and processes used in the production of the product.

If the preliminary investigation indicates acceptable ingredients and procedures, the manufacturer is informed as to the nature of rabbinical supervision required for the food product for a specific period of time. Each individual food product must be inspected and certified separately, and the certification process is ongoing; each product must be inspected every year.

In an effort to protect kosher-observant consumers, kosher laws have been incorporated into various state codes. For example, in New York, the Kosher Law Enforcement Division (KLED) is maintained to aid its large Jewish population and protect consumers from the mislabeling and misrepresentation of food products.

 A division of the state's Department of Agriculture and Markets, KLED's tasks include ensuring that businesses selling any item with kosher certification—particularly meat and poultry products—adhere to the state's labeling laws. Rabbi Rubin stated, “We feel the consumer is to be protected. If a market section says it is kosher, it should be kosher without the buyer having to carefully check the ingredients.”

The legal protection for kosher consumers was first introduced into American law in 1915. According to Kashrus, “New York has continued its leadership role by setting standards for the development of new ways to guard against fraud and misrepresentation in the sales and distribution of kosher food.” KLED laws require that meat and meat parts (including poultry) be identified as kosher through the use of tags and plumbas. The regulations also address the procedures to be followed with respect to the required washing of meat and the method of transportation.

This is the difference between McDonalds and Ruth Cris or Berns Steak House.
